Today I would like to share with you what I am learning lately. As you can tell from the blog, I have made a decision to begin running for the purpose of fitness with the maybe, possible hope of running a 5k or 10k or maybe even a marathon. This desire to run has taught me many things in the past few weeks and here they are:
1. If you see anyone running any amount of distance you should applaud them excessively! These people are heroes who have had to endure great pain to acheive even running more than a mile. Especially if they are over 30!
2. If you are going to train, never, never, never cold turkey begin running! This is a serious no-no and there will be serious consequences. Trust me, I know!
I have been in a downward spiral ever since I ran my little 2 miles to get things going. You know the saying "eyes are bigger than your stomach"? Well my heart and desire were far more advanced than my body! But I assure you, I have learned my lesson. Today I have been to the doctor to try and begin to diagnose and fix what is happening with my body.
Here is the list of ailments:
ankles feel like they might break in half at any moment
knees are creaking and popping.
back has ceased to function as a support for the rest of me.
Hair hurts at the roots.
Neck is tight
Shoulder on the right side is burning sending a pinched nerve sensation down my arm.
And drum roll please......My hands swelled up like the Pillsbury Dough Boy last night! I did get my wedding ring off finally after Joey and I padded it in ice at 4am. The other ring is stuck on until the swelling goes down. I have had blood work done and peed in a cup so hopefully they will find out what is going on with my swollen appendages. Meanwhile, the back pain is for another doctor. Dr. Jack, Mr. Sportsmed, will hopefully be taking care of that one.
3. Don't give up! I refuse to surrender. The way I see it, I will have fabulous story of triumph later on when I am running 20 miles, or 10 or 5, or whatever!
4. Finally, I have learned that I have alot of smart and encouraging friends. Thanks to all of you who have emailed, texted, facebooked, and called with advice and encouragement and love. I appreciate all of you!!!
Some lessons are hard to learn but nevertheless, they are learned!

Oh my goodness - who knew? But I guess, just walking a few miles can cause quite an ache, (if you're out of shape like me) so I guess running could really get you!
Yes, ma'am! All of those are correct.
And, the not-so-pleasant-thought of this, is that part of it, the aches the pains, the cracks the pops........we are just not as young as we used to be! YIKES! There I said it!
Hang in there sista! You can do it!
