Spring Break!

We are home again! Spring Break was awesome and it was a much needed time with family and friends. I took so many pictures that it was difficult to narrow it down but I tried. Beware this is an extra long post because it was a golf cart driving, camping, hiking, butterfly chasing, eating, relaxing, movie watching, refrigerator box riding, King Tutting, marshmallow roasting, 3D movie watching, Late Night Talking, grandparent spoiling, family loving good time!We planned to camp at the beginning of the week and visit some very good friends of ours in Atlanta the latter part of the week. Plans quickly changed when the rain began and kept coming and coming and coming. Camping was not going to happen and so I quickly made a phone call to friends, Jay and Frances, and we headed to Atlanta early. I am so glad they were feeling spontaneous and didn't mind a change of plans. We arrived Monday night and left on Wednesday. We had a blast! It is so good to just sit and talk to friends who know us so well. They are kindred spirits and we are so blessed to have had their friendship for now 15 years!!! We talked for literally hours and only stopped to sleep. It was awesome and my only regret is that we didn't have more time with them. I am so deeply thankful to our Father in heaven for blessing us at Auburn with lasting friendships that have stood the test of time and distance. This friendship is truly a treasure to us. We love you, Worthingtons!
Andrew, Anli, Virginia Grace and Alora

Andrew and Anli were born within 3 months of each other. They have been friends, seriously since the day they were born! How many people can say that? Frances and I used to park there bouncy seats side by side. Oh the stories we could tell you about these two when they were little! It is always fun to get them together. Virginia Grace and Alora became friends again quickly, exchanging webkinz addresses and vowing to visit each other's webkinz house. It was cute to listen to them talk about coming to the webkinz house to play. We can't wait to visit again when they come to our real house in August!

While we were in Atlanta, we went to see the King Tut Exhibit at the Atlanta Civic Center. I do not miss an opportunity to make our home schooling experience more meaningful and rich. This experience was awesome. I was so awe struck by the fact that we were looking at artifacts from the time period that we have been studying since August that I didn't talk much at all at the exhibit. (hard to imagine me not talking, I know) I don't even remember talking to Jay and Frances about it afterwords. It just had an impact deep in my core and it took me awhile to process. The kids loved it too. We were not allowed to take pictures inside so what we saw will just have to stay forever in our memories but I did manage to snap a few fun pics outside the exhibit.

We left Georgia and headed to the mountains for a two night camp at Cheaha State Park.

We found a great campsite and set up our tent. Mimi and Bibi and Beowulf joined us that evening for dinner over an open camp fire. Bibi had to fly in the morning so he headed out that night but Mimi spent the night with us. The next morning it was campfire bacon and eggs--my favorite!

We hiked, had a picnic lunch and played at the playground until Bibi joined us again. He was able to spend the night the next night with us. We hiked to a waterfall and took some very nice pictures before returning to civilization.
Andrew and Alora chased butterflies everywhere! We named one "Butter" and saw him everywhere we went ; ) We were so excited that he was following us.

Alora and Andrew love the outdoors and definitely helped us get our excercise. Alora fears nothing and scoots along rocks and cliffs like nobodys business, terrifying her mother and father who are constantly chasing her down while Andrew takes on a more cautious yet, investigative approach to the woods, spending time looking for small treasures.

We headed back to Pell City in time to make Meemaw's birthday cake for her birthday party on Saturday. Alora had a specific design she was wanting on the cake so she dictated and I put the icing on. It turned out really well. We had a great time celebrating Meemaw's birthday with all of the family. It is so fun to watch all of the cousins playing together on the hill with things like a refrigerator box while all of us adults catch up life. God has been busy and it is awesome to hear what He is doing in the lives of our family members!

Sunday was spent visiting churches and old friends and then it was time for the first bridal shower of the summer. My niece, Ashley, is getting married. I remember when she was little and I would take she and Eryne, my other niece, to Claire's, a favorite spot of ours. My how things have changed. I regret that we have always been the uncle and aunt who lived far away and that I have missed many precious days watching them grow up, but I love Ashley and Eryne and Kayla so much and am so thankful that I get to be a part of this special time in Ashley's life.
