Dog/Cake Week

My weeks seem to have themes ever since April started. The first week of April I would title "Church Ministry Week". There were just a lot of things going on that week and I met with many ladies from my church-planning and such. The second week was "Easter Preparation Week". The third week was "Scrapbooking Retreat Preparation /Computer Virus Week"and this past week was "SAT Testing/Yard Sale Week". See! Each week is a different theme! But let's not stop there. This week is definitely shaping up to be Dog/Cake Week.

This week has begun with cakes. The wedding is Saturday and I am officially baking. The baking began on Saturday when Mom Thompson was here. We had a brainstorming session (this is about the third official brainstorming session I have had trying to work out the details of this cake) and then decided to have a trial run. We needed to talk as we baked to process through the ends and outs of every move. I think we accomplished a lot. There are, however, no pictures of this cake because although it tasted good, it looked awful, but it was only because we were in a major hurry. Meemaw took some home and the bride was able to taste the cake--She loved it!
Yeah! Now we just have to make it look good. But don't let me get ahead of myself lets review the weekend all together. Joey and I began the yard sale at 5:30. I was so thankful for Joey who got up early with me to get things started. Most of my big items were gone by 8:00am and I was feeling pretty good about the yard sale. I left Joey in charge and headed off with Alora to her soccer game. They played tough but in the end they lost this one. Look at that cutie!

Alora has become a very good defensive player.

In the end, its all about having fun!

As soon as the game was over we headed back to the yard sale to discover that Meemaw and Poppie had arrived. Joey, Andrew and Pop headed off to the Car Show where they worked all afternoon while Mom T., Alora and I held down the fort until 12:30m when we closed up shop and hauled all of the leftovers off to the thrift store before joining the boys at the car show. We then took Alora to a birthday party. Whew! We were busy bees.

They got really cool NAPA hats for their hard work at the car show!
At the end of the day, Poppie and Alora curled up on the couch for some Narnia while Meemaw and I began a trial run on the cakes.
So my week began as Cake Week. The other thing going on this week involves my poor pooch. Cookie, our beloved dog, has torn her ACL--this ultimately means big trouble. She is limping and has been for quite some time but we are in the beginning stages of trying to figure out what to do. I am making calls this week to find out what our next step may be. As you can see from the picture, she has a terribly hard life. : )

So that is it! Dog/Cake Week. I am thoroughly planning to blog every step of the cake making process this week. Will Brooke make a masterpiece or a monstrosity? Will it be eatable or forgettable? Will the cake be a tower of splendor or the Leaning Tower of Pisa? Will Brooke have an anxiety attack and be hospitalized? All these questions and more will be answered so stay tuned!
