The last week of the earthly life of Jesus, the Christ—this is a record of that week.
SUNDAY— (Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; John 12:12-19)
On the first day of this final week Jesus fulfilled a prophecy found in Zachariah 9:9– The Triumphal Entry. The crowd welcomed him with the shout of “Hosanna!” and “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”
MONDAY— (Matthew 21:10-17; Mark 11:15-18; Luke 19:45-48)
Anger. . . “Zeal for Your house will consume Me” (Psalm 69:9). On this day Jesus cleansed the temple. He drove out the people who were using the Temple to gain profit.
TUESDAY— (Matthew 21:23–24:51; Mark 11:27–13:37; Luke 20:1–21:36)
The Pharisees and teachers of the law try to trap Jesus with seemingly unanswerable questions. But after hearing Jesus’ answers. . . Well, Just read Luke 20:39-40. Then on the mount of olives overlooking Jerusalem he taught in parables. He also told his disciples of future events, including his own return!
WEDNESDAY—(Matthew 23:37-39)
Quite possibly this was the day Christ lamented over Jerusalem. This could have even been His second time for such lamenting (see Luke 13:34-35). The first would have been on His previous Jerusalem visit and fulfilled in the triumphal entry. This lamenting will be fulfilled at His Second Coming!
THURSDAY— (Matthew 26:17-56; Mark 14:12-50: Luke 22:7-23, 40-53; John 13:1–17:26)
In the upper room Jesus prepared His disciples for His death. He instituted the Lord’s Supper. Then, Jesus comforted His disciples. Part of this comforting was the prayer that He prayed, and He prayed for you! (Read John 17 and remember, this prayer is for you). Jesus and His disciples left the upper room and went to the Garden of Gethsemane. There, the same hands that molded the dirt of Eden and made man, now clinched the dirt of Gethsemane, in agony, wrestling with the decision to save His creation. Then, Judas betrays Him. Jesus is arrested and taken before the Sanhedrin. Peter Denies Him three times. The rooster crows.
FRIDAY— (Matthew 27:1-66; Mark 15:1-47; Luke 22:66–22:56; John 18:28–19:37)
6:00AM– Jesus is taken before Pilate. Pilate questions Jesus and even tries to free Him.
9:00AM– The crowd chants, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” The cat of nine
tails; the robe; the crown. Jesus denies himself, takes up His cross, and walks to Calvary.
11:00AM– Nails pierce the hands and feet of God! Soldiers spit on Him. They continue to
mock Him, and they cast lots for His clothes. “Father, forgive them.”
12:00PM– Darkness! God, The Father, turns His back on God, The Son. For three hours
the world remained dark.
3:00PM– “Into Thy hands I commit My Spirit.” Jesus— DIED.
Before 6:00PM– His body is placed in a tomb.
SATURDAY—
Genesis 2:2 says that God rested on the seventh day because He had finished all of His work. He did not rest until He was finished. Here again, Jesus has finished His work, so He rested on the Sabbath.
SUNDAY— (Matthew 28:1-13; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24:1-49; John 20:1-31)
“Why do you seek the living among the dead?” HE IS ALIVE!!!
