The Bionicle Dog

Today is surgery day for our sweet Cookie. She has torn her ACL and after much consultation and discussions with vets, we are taking her to Birmingham. She has been standing next to the car all morning waiting to make sure she is not getting left while I have been packing things into it. Little does she know, the trip is about her! She will have surgery this afternoon and will spend the night there. We will pick her up tomorrow and bring her home. She will be confined to the bathroom for six weeks! AHHHH! After that she will be on a leash and given limited freedom for 3 months. Then she shall be good as new, yeah! The procedure that she will be having requires a steel plate to be put in her leg to take the pressure off the ACL. She is too big for other procedures that use mesh. The vet told us that for a large, active dog mesh would wear down easily and only be a temporary fix. This plate is a permanent fix and our 3 year old, American Bulldog/Large Something Something, doggie should be good as new. Pray for us! It is going to be a long six weeks. Kindof like having a newborn in the house again but we are looking forward to when the three months are up and we can actually throw a ball to her or run in the yard with our new bionicle dog!
