My dad completed basic training in Ft. Rucker, when I was eight years old so I thought it would be fun to find my old town house. With my 29 year old memories to guide me, would you believe I found it!
It is amazing what we have logged away in these brains of ours.
Ah, the memories came flooding back: the cruelty to my brother, army life, car rides to see my dad on the weekends before we moved there.
The next day, we met up with some friends who were also in town and got the tour. First stop was a sobering one. In 2007 some very devastating tornadoes struck Enterprise leveling a high school and claiming the lives of eight students and one teacher. We visited the memorial. My friend who was with us had kids in that school during that time who had lost friends in that weather event. Winds were in excess of 170mph! The town saw much devastation.
It was hard to read those plaques naming and showing pictures of kids who lost their lives. It was hard for all of us.
After spending some time at the memorial and then riding around to see the sights we stopped at the Aviation Museum to take a tour.
Man, I love a good jeep, especially when it is bursting forth from a giant plane. I will have a jeep one day!
Fasten your safety belts. (Note- Andrew would never make it as a Golden Knight.)
Prepare for take off! Alora was the pilot and Andrew was in charge of making that really cool shooting noise that only boys can make.
I am a happy copilot!
We loved touring the museum, seeing the aircraft and reading about soldiers with valor. The stories of soldiers risking it all for friends, strangers and their country is my favorite part by far.
After the museum, it was time for ice cream at the Milky Moo!Full day! Full o' Fun!
