Auburn Adventure!

The weekend of the marriage retreat, we knew we were going to be close to Auburn and so as soon as the retreat was over we picked up the kids and headed off to the Plains!

First stop upon entering the city was Cheeburger, Cheeburger where we threw down on some delicious burgers.  Now it has probably been four or five years since we have been there and we were definitely in for some changes.  Even the pictures at Cheeburger Cheeburger were displayed differently than they used to.  We had a great dinner and then commenced to walking to Toomer's Corner for the first look at the trees.  This would be Alora's first time to "Mommy and Daddy's school", we brought Andrew to a game about 5 years ago.  The kids loved seeing the trees but it was also a bit sad to think about what could happen to them.

We found letters like this dispersed around the base of the tree.  So sad.  There were many people in town this weekend doing the same thing we were--Coming to enjoy a piece of the past, present and future.  Auburn was the place, not only where I spent my college days but also where God grabbed a hold of my heart and absolutely transformed me!  It was home for Joey for 5 years and me--for three (I was a transfer student).  God did a mighty work in me the summer before I left for Auburn.  I became sold out on Jesus that summer turning away from the sins of my youth and rising gloriously from the ruins to raise my hands toward the Son of God.  I had no idea that heading off to AU was only the beginning of an amazing trek.  I got involved in the BCM (because Joey was) and met the most amazing people who were also sold out for Jesus.  It was the first time I had seen people my own age, besides Joey, who loved the Lord and lived for Him too!
We were the body of Christ. And so began my christian journey---The stories I could tell would fill this blog up and then some.  The friends we met there, count them, 16 years ago, are our friends now.  We are so blessed!

Our poor children were probably sick of hearing all of our stories--but we told them!  I couldn't help it---walking all over campus, "That's where Amanda lived, and there and there and there too." "That is Funches Hall, where we played sardines in the dark".  "That is Haley Center--where Mommy spent 99% of the time" "There is where Bro. Jed would stand", "That is Foy Union (although it is in a completely different spot, but don't get me started about that) Do you have a question for them?" "The gymnastics building used to be where that parking garage is." "It went on and on... and on and on.
The kids really did enjoy walking all over campus and I think their favorite things was the
Football Field.
My Aunt Virginia was so kind to let us stay the night in her beautiful home.  We had a wonderful nights sleep and a very tasty pancake breakfast to wake up to. It was so awesome to spend some time with her and Jane.
We trounced all over campus.
Telling the children of the wonders of college life.  What they discovered was that they are gonna have to get in shape for all the walking-- what a couple of wimps. : )
Gorgeous!

We had a wonderful lunch at Toomer' Corner and of course, we had Toomer's Lemonade!
I can only hope that one day we will come back, far into the future, with bags packed, truck loaded up to drop off our children to spend the next four years experiencing college life.  We would support them any where they decided to go, even Alabama, but not Florida, okay...maybe even Florida, but a mother can only dream of making repeat trips back to her, home school, Auburn to visit her college student.  Who knows, maybe by that time,  I will be ready to go back and get my masters, so Andrew, Alora and I can just go to college together.  Bwa, ha, ha!
Thanks for the memories, Auburn. War Eagle!
We will not wait five years again!
