Monday seems to be "Blog Inspiration Day". Have you noticed that I won't have written a single blog and then all of a sudden on Monday there are three new ones! I am not sure why but Monday is the day for me to write and right now three blogs are running around in my head so I thought I had better get started.
This past week was a crazy one! Monday it was cub scouts, Tuesday it was errands, errands errands, Wednesday Bible Study, Thursday Alora had a basketball end-of-the-season party, Friday was home school skate day and Sci Quest Family Mystery Night, Saturday Men's Prayer Breakfast (obviously this only applied to Joey), Upward Basketball Banquet and Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby Night. Sunday, church and a Sav-A-Life Baby Shower; oh did I mention school. Everyone was so tired this morning that I let them all sleep in. Andrew emerged at 9:15 and Joey and Alora emerged at about 9:30. It is Joey's off day so I spontaneously declared it "Home Improvement and Get Rid of the Filth Day" at our little home school and everyone is busy at work doing various cleaning projects and fence mending projects. I will blog about these things later but I did want to just spend a minutes reflecting on some things from this past weekend.
End of the Year Basketball Party:
Alora had a great season in Upwards Basketball and she was very sad that the season was over. We made many new friends and were excited about that. The good thing is that some of these relationships will continue through soccer season that begins Thursday. Wow, out of one sport and into another but that is the way she likes it. She is counting down the days! One of the families we became friends with lives in our neighborhood so we are really looking forward to spending more time with them and one family goes to cub scouts with Andrew so yeah!!!
Home school Skate Day:
At last month's skate day we met two moms who live in our city. This month we went and met even more. It is so nice to get encouragement in homeschooling with other people who are walking this path. The skating rink is awesome and Andrew and Alora skated, very wobbly, for the first time. I ended up putting on skates with them so that I could help teach them how to skate. It is funny how there are some things you just don't forget how to do. It was very fun and funny. I laughed with my kids alot!
Sci Quest Mystery Night:
My mom found this on the Internet and we signed up and went. Sci Quest is the hands-on-science Museum in Huntsville. We got there about 6pm and watched a drama team act out a crime. $250.00 was stolen and it was up to team Thompson and other teams to solve the mystery. We had to investigate the crime scene, participate in DNA testing, shoe print analysis, soil Analysis, and chromatography. We had to examine teeth impressions, look at counterfeit money and real money and be able to tell the difference. Each of the kids was given a field notebook for recording and drawing evidence as we went to each of the stations. We had so much fun and in the end we solved the crime! Rodney did it! We got a certificate for being a crime fighting forensic family!
Upwards Basketball Banquet:
Andrew had a great coach this year and we were so appreciative of all that he did to teach the guys. The banquet was a good time to just say thank you. There was a christian magician there and he was really funny and entertaining and he had a good message. Yeah! The kids received very cool back packs for their participation.
Cub Scout Pine Wood Derby:
Andrew won best in show! He totally designed his car and then he and Joey spent many hours really getting it to match the prototype. Yeah! Andrew! He also finished in the top ten in speed. He got two trophies. We now have a little over a month to get ready for the Pine Wood Derby at our church. Maybe this time we can get the speed up. We will have to if we are ever going to beat a certain family in our church who have the fastest cars every year.
Sav-A-Life Baby Shower:
Sav-a-Life is an organization that helps pregnant women by giving them godly counsel and aid. I was very excited that 16 women turned out bringing gifts that the director could take back to the clinic and share with moms who need supplies. We also had some ladies sign up to volunteer to go through the training needed to become a counselor. What an awesome way to share the love of Christ with those around us. I was really pumped about this ministry!
Well, as I said, we took the day off from regular school to spend some time just cleaning and reorganizing and repairing. We needed a day to just recuperate from our very busy but very awesome week.
