The Truth Revealed in History

In the mornings, our family has, what we call, family worship time. Because of what we are learning in history, Joey and I have tried to incorporate our history lessons into our Bible reading during our family worship time. We have been learning about the Davidic Kingdom and the Reign of King Solomon. We have studied the temple and learned about the men; their triumph and their tragedies and without going into great detail, their sins. This morning Joey felt that since we were learning about King Solomon that we would read some of the writings of Solomon so we headed to Proverbs 1. After the reading of verse 8, "Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching," Joey explained that Solomon, the wisest of men, was instructing his son to follow the teaching of his father. Joey then asked, "What does it mean to forsake not your mother's teaching?" Andrew confidently answered, "Don't go with what your mom says!" (I feel that he has learned this from his father : ) We laughed a good bit about this and tried to move on but I was just so tickled over it. Joey then explained to him that "forsake not "means that you "do not turn away" from your mother's teaching. "Solomon was explaining to his son to listen to the authority of his mother as well," said Joey. With that, Andrew added, "Yeah, son, all 700 of them!" I laughed to tears and really had a hard time regaining my composure. I told Joey afterwards that maybe this is one of those times when revealing the history first was maybe not a good idea. Funny!
