The Days of Our Dog

Cookie has been doing fairly well in her recovery and she has definitely done a good job training us. Things we are being taught by Cookie:
Consistency- She must have anxiety medicine 1-2 hours before we leave to go somewhere or she will pee on herself when we leave. This means we must have a daily plan and stick to it. There is a specific window of time that we can leave and be gone and get back without serious crate cleanup.

Patience- As she feels better, she is getting back to her old wily ways. She has twice, in the past week, gotten that glazed look in her eyes and attempted to challenge me while I was lying on the couch. She is feeling frisky.

Responsibility- She is feeling better and therefore is plotting her grand escape back in to the back or front yard without a leash. She got loose when I forgot to close the door behind me and took her off the leash too soon. She was gone in about 2 seconds flat! She is a quick one! We must be responsible and not get too comfortable. We have to stick to our guns even though she appears to be so much better.

Creativity- We have had to get creative and come up with fun things to do at home. It is just not worth getting out sometimes. If I really don't feel like worrying about whether she is okay in the crate, we just stay home.

So what does Cookie do in all her spare time when she is not plotting her escapes? She plays cards! She goes on family picnics in the front yard! She sneaks into the bed with the kids!

As you can see, she really has a hard life. Ah! Only 16 days to more freedom.
