Pop's Birthday Party and the Soggy Balloons

As soon as we arrived home Friday night from our Texas travels, we were already planning our next set of adventures. Saturday morning I picked up Cookie from the boarder to find that her leg was worse and she had cut open her tail by banging too hard against the bars of her cage. There was blood everywhere but worse yet, was the foot she was holding up in the air. She had probably had her front paws up on the bars the entire time she had been boarded, putting a lot of pressure on her already injured foot. I had no time to think about that though we had family coming to town.

It was Pop's 60th Birthday! We were so excited to have Joey's family come up for the day to celebrate his birthday and Mom and Pop's 40th wedding anniversary. We planned to meet at our house, have lunch and cake together, and then go to Alabama Jubilee, the hot air balloon festival in Decatur.
The birthday boy adorned with very fashionable glasses!

I did not make the cake this time because we had just arrived back in town. Publix made this one and although it tasted fabulous, it didn't quite look like what I expected. It was still yummy though and Pop didn't seem to mind that his cake was pastel!

After lunch, cake and some dominoes, we headed to the balloon festival. We found a great parking spot, hiked to the field only to discover that, although there were many people, there were no balloons! The weather had been yuck and many of the pilots had packed up and headed home. We were feeling pretty disappointed when all of sudden they began blowing some balloons up! I have never seen them actually blow them up so it was quite interesting.
Alora and Abby were inseparable. Alora loves her cousins so much!
Cousins!

All in all, five balloons were raised! Yeah! Usually the field is full of them but with weather like this we were thankful and excited about the five!

Ready for flight!

Andrew and Alyssa enjoyed getting close to the balloons.

I love that this balloon says HEAD and there is Andrew's head! This was our favorite balloon.

As quick as the balloons went up--they came down! Meemaw and Poppie headed out for an anniversary evening in Huntsville that included Imax and Space Center fun while the rest of us headed home for some evening fun time with David, Tammy and the girls. Even though it was a soggy celebration it was a great time to spend celebrating Meemaw and Poppie. We love you so much and are so thankful for the both of you! Happy Birthday, Poppie! and Happy 40th Anniversary, Meemaw and Poppie! May God grant us many more years of celebrating together as a family!
