A Birthday To Remember

I can't say that I actually dreaded turning 35; it has just been kind of another year in my mid- thirties. I am very fortunate to spend my birthday every year celebrating with one of my very best friends in the whole world, my brother! It's his birthday too and now we have both crossed into the thirties. It's funny; He still looks like a kid to me. I guess he always will since he is my baby brother, born on my fifth birthday (boy was I mad on that day). This birthday proved to be a very memorable one.

Mom takes special care every year finding just the right cake. The bakeries that she has used just seem to only do for one year. She is a hard woman to please when it comes to her kiddos and every year we get an amazing cake. I can remember when the sheet cake would come and it was divided in half- one side "airplane" the other side "strawberry shortcake", one side "acoustic guitar" the other side "electric guitar". The cakes are always spectacular and loads of fun. The cake this year, I call "Classy with Age". Isn't it gorgeous? It was yummy too!

Now to tell you how memorable a birthday we had I will have to back up all the way to Wednesday when I was still in Athens. Mom called me to let me know that my dad had taken my Momo to the hospital with chest pains. Dad picked her up from work, gave her an aspirin and then headed to the hospital. From the time he picked her up things really started to spin. They arrived at the hospital in about 15 minutes and the hospital staff went to work. In less than an hour it had been determined that she was having a massive heart attack and the main artery heading to her heart was blocked %100 percent. They quickly stinted it and established blood flow. The doctor said later that he did not know how she made it because it was %100 blocked and from the picture of her heart you can plainly see that she was not getting any blood flow but he said, "Blood was coming from somewhere, but where from, is beyond me!" We all wanted to just throw our arms up in the air at that news and just scream, "We KNOW FROM WHERE!" "It's called the power of Jesus Christ!" He really showed off in my Momo this past week and we are all just giving Him the praise for the wisdom and quickness he gave my dad, and the doctors and the healing only He performed on her heart. The picture I have had in my head is of her heart with a powerful life-sustaining finger just touching the spot where blood needed to be flowing-the loving touch of a Father who loves my Momo and cares for her every need! Needless to say, we had a lot to celebrate this fourth of July. The picture above is on the fourth of July after coming home from the hospital. She was back to business-shucking corn and praising the Lord.
We all had a great time spending time together as a family.
Uncle Dale!
Amber and David!
What a cute couple!
Watermelon!
Bibi! Bug Killing has become a sport at our house!
Aunt Donna and Uncle Tommy!
Andrew loves the corn! Dad grills it in the husk with butter and spices--mmmm!
Joey and Unc patrol the lake! Look out Baywatch!
There was much tom foolery!
Bug-Zapping Protege'-Heath!
My, the faith my children have--Look at them walking on water! How are they doing this? ----You try to figure it out!
We had to travel back home the evening of the 4th and so we had a birthday dinner just the four of us. My friend, Cindy, baked me a strawberry cake and let me tell you, it was AWESOME! Homemade strawberry frosting--Delicious!
This picture was taken right before we devoured it.

Alora, Andrew and Joey gave me poetry for my birthday! That is what I asked them for and each one of them wrote me a poem--They were so great--Timeless Treasures! Alora also made me this treasure box--isn't it cute?

I also got birthday brownies from my friend, Leah! I am so spoiled! Thanks to everybody for the phone calls, emails, facebook wall messages, gifts and goodies and face to face "Happy Birthdays". You all mean so much to me and I love you!

It was definitely one of the best birthdays ever because we were able to just spend time together praising God. He taught me a lot and I cried a whole lot. I've cried out of joy and I've cried out of fear. There are certain moments in time that we are able to place up a marker and say "God did that-then". Turning 35 has been one of those times when I placed up one of those markers where you learn a timeless lesson or a nugget that you will carry with you forever. It will take a while before I understand all that He has done but there are a few things I know for sure:

  1. This is the time to praise the Lord.
  2. This is the time to place faith in Him.
  3. This is the time to put away childish things and mature in faith.
  4. This is the time to depend solely on a loving and merciful God.
  5. This is the time to serve Him with gladness.
  6. This is the time to put to death my will and submit to His.
  7. This is the time to remember we are eternal beings; destined to live on forever.
  8. This is the time to turn to His Word and be filled.
  9. This is the time to fall in love with Jesus.
There is no better time; there may be no other time.
Hello, 35. Nice to see you.

Wow. Well said. Being quite emotional at early post pregnancy those are very encouraging words. Especially since my 35th is just in a few days (Sunday). Never realized our birthdays are so close together. Happy Birthday!
