Three days before we even left for the beach, Alora, the birthday girl, got sick. We had been exposed to the flu, strep throat and the common cold so we knew we were doomed. We took her to the doctor to discover she did not have the flu, whew, and decided it was a virus. Two days later, on the day we were to leave, we were back at the doctor fearing she had strep throat due to the brightness of color as well as blisters in her throat. Turns out, pharyngitis, was the culprit and so we would just have to wait it out. We decided that she needed beach air, so we headed on. Turns out--that's exactly what she needed!
I've never seen a purple flag and a red flag flying but our first day there were both because of these little guys and high waves. They were all over the place and so we just played in the sand which was fine seeing as how we did not even arrive until 4pm.
Andrew is a digger! He loves to build in the sand. It was so great because he was building fortresses and having military conflict when all of a sudden he said, "Mom how do you think the Mycenaeans built their cities on the shore?" He was pulling up our history from three weeks back. I love it when our schooling spontaneously comes up! It means it was meaningful.
Alora was determined to try and eat a fish for the very first time while we were at the beach. Her throat was bothering her so much but she tried. I ended up eating most of it. The food was good, the live band was good and the company was good. After dinner we headed to LuLu's shop to get a souvenir. We call Alora, LuLu, so we just had to have something for her. She bought a pair of sunglasses and a shirt that said, "LuLu's- Girls are born with glitter in their veins!" It was a perfect shirt to end a perfect traveling day.
