Krispy Kreme Challenge

The Challenge: Run 2 miles to Krispy Kreme. Eat 1 dozen donuts. Run 2 miles back to the finish line. In one hour!

It was a beautifully cloudy and cold morning. The kind of morning that just makes you wake up and say, "Hey! This morning I want to run 2 miles to Krispy Kreme, down a dozen donuts and then run back 2 miles. Yes, that's what I want to do!" Well, actually we were saying, "What were we thinking?" There were about 500 people who showed up this brisk morning to run the Krispy Kreme Challenge for United Cerebral Palsy in downtown Huntsville. There was a lot of energy. One guy came to run in his flannel pajamas, another in a sumo suit! One girl was eating a couple of donuts before she ran the race--What in the world? Yep, it's mornings like these that I think the running community is CRAZY!!!!

We were off- and the first two miles started nicely other than it was cold. We were pacing well and just heated up about the time to stop and down some donuts. We were each given a dozen to take care of and all the water we wanted. We ate.

And we ate.

And we ate.

And we ate.

Then we shared! Yep, we realized very quickly that this was not a task for one, but a TEAM of many. I am just glad we brought a team with us.

Donut #s- Alora=3, Andrew=4, Joey=4, Brooke=3, for a team total of= 14!!! (We also helped team Reid eat their donuts.)

We also met up with some running friends who also tried to down the donuts.
Go, Brittney!

People were everywhere trying to eat their donuts. It really was quite a site to see.

We finished with 4 minutes to spare! Yes, we conquered the Krispy Kreme Challenge but it came at a cost--sugar sickness. Majority of the people I saw were really struggling to get back to the finish line in one piece. However, I read an article in the news about the run where the winner was interviewed. He said that it was nothing to down the donuts and he wanted another dozen! Are there steroids that make one immune to sugar rush? And my next question: What was he on? All in all, it was a fun day!
Can you say, "SERIOUS NAP"?
Go, Krispy Kreme!

One night last week after eating Mellow Mushroom we saw the Hot Doughnuts light flashing. Since we only make it to Columbus every few months now I couldn't pass it up. They were wonderful. I ate three in the car on the way home and two more once we got home. The next morning I woke up not feeling too great. Maybe if I had done some running in between it wouldn't have been so bad.
