13.1 Miles! Race Day!

We were up early. The race began at 7:00am. We were fired up. Spirits are always high at the beginning of the race. There are so many people. Everybody is flittering about. Last minute restroom breaks, Pinning on the numbers, Stretching, Evaluating how much clothing you are actually gone to keep on. We were thinking about all of these things as we stood in line for the restroom.

There were so many people and we ran to our spot just as the countdown began 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and we were off! The biggest race of my life so far!

It is amazing to see all the runner filing down the street.

We were soooo excited!!!

That's ME--#3751!
It was non stop people the entire race. I believe that the racers numbered in to the upper thousands.

There were all types of racers. The race, being on Valentine's Day, brought out many cupids.

Look at all those people!

My parents found us about 6.5 miles in to the race. We were still going strong and having fun.

Around mile 6 we decided to have our first taste of Gu (that nasty stuff that takes like thick pudding that gives you extra energy when your body starts running out). It wasn't too bad. Yucky, but it definitely provided us with some much needed energy.

About mile 11, David and Nicole found us. I cannot tell you what an encouragement it is to have people who love you cheering you on as you go. My pace was a bit slower at 11 but it felt good.

Misty did a great job! She was strong throughout.

We finished in 2 hours and 31 minutes. It was amazing. The only thing hurting was my hip. Understandable since I have never run this far before.

Me and my medal. It was so cool. My first one and it looked like a Mercedes symbol. Also, I got the coolio finisher shirt.

Next up--FOOD. The family joined me as I ate some Jim and Nicks.

It was so exciting! I loved the entire experience! I was planning my next one the very next day. I realize I am crazy but we are having a blast! Here is to you 13.11 May there be many more miles ahead! : )
