This past week, Joey had a business trip to Atlanta. Business trips are something we are getting used to ever since he took a second job back in October. We made big plans since it would be for the entire week. We left Sunday night after church and he headed to Atlanta while I made a two day stop in Pell City. I homeschooled the kiddos for two days while Joey got settled into training and his hotel. The plan would be for me to join him in Atlanta on Wednesday and leave the kids with Mimi and Bibi. We would both come back on Friday and then I would run a 5K in Birmingham on Saturday while Joey, the kids and the dog traveled back home. I would stay one more night and, on Sunday, run my very first half marathon with good friend, Misty.
There was a lot going on.
Very quickly, before I get to what this post is about, I must mention that I achieved a major milestone while at home with my parents. With the upcoming race in sight, due to weather, I still had not run more than 6 miles! This is a major problem since a half marathon is 13.1! Well, on Tuesday, an overcast, wet and cold day, I headed out with mp3, Garmin watch, appropriate running gear and gu and made the plan to stay out at the track for an hour and a half. Turns out--I can run 8.2 miles in an hour and a half! It was awesome, and I loved it. Maybe that would be enough to be prepared for the 13.1
Wednesday morning I headed to Atlanta sore! I met Joey for lunch and then went back to the hotel room for a much needed 3 hour snooze. Thursday morning, I was up on the treadmill in the hotel and downed a quick 3 miles before heading out to me my friend, Frances for lunch. That was one of the great advantages to having the business trip in Atlanta, seeing great friends who live there! Frances and I ate delicious Greek food and had great conversation as we do when we get together. That evening, we met up with Jay, Craig, Shannon and Joey for some more fine dining at MELLOW MUSHROOM, oh how I love the Philosopher's Pie!
In Atlanta, the Mellow Mushroom there has one seat in the house that is situated in a large tree. It is the coveted seat, as everyone else in the restaurant must sit in an average booth. We have eaten there in the average booth dreaming of when we might gain access to the coveted tree throne. Well, tonight was our night!!!
Added bonus:It was also Magician Who Makes Coolio Balloon Hat Night!
What a treat!

What a treat!

The Monday before was Frances' birthday and this would be a great way to celebrate her big day! Check out her extremely large STAR HAT!!! We were laughing so hard that we were crying! Jay was also given a rather trendy "pokey" hat.

Craig and Shannon were the adorable couple who received his and hers Valentine's hats. Check out that giant heart! It was fun to watch her heading to the bathroom, ducking under doorways and such. Craig's was versatile and he wore it many different ways : )

I was Cindy Lou Who and Joey looked like a giant birthday candle. Quite fitting, since it was Frances' birthday dinner. I am so proud of Joey for keeping his hat on!
I love these guys and gals! We had so much fun. After dinner we headed back to Jay and Frances' house for some Scene IT 80's style. The boys jumped out with a strong lead but the girls team fought back and took the victory in the end. It was a blast reflecting on our younger years and recalling the fashion and hair mistakes we all made.

It was a fabulous night hanging out with great friends!
Happy Birthday, Frances!
We love you, bunches!
