The day finally came when it was time to release our little Painted Lady Butterflies to the Wild, well at least to our neighborhood, which can be a very wild place.
The first butterfly took off as soon as I tilted the netting. The first flight was successful and we stood and cheered our girl on as she ascended higher and higher. She never looked back. Sniff.
The second butterfly took some prodding. She did not wish to leave her cozy home complete with grape Gatorade and the sights and sounds in our kitchen but we knew she must go.
She finally took off only to land a few feet away from us. We were concerned that maybe she was unable to fly and so we ran to her rescue.
She took a breather and then mustered up her courage to try again. She flew and then landed, again, a few feet away from us. We were getting concerned for her but just when we thought we might have to scoop her up and put her back into her man made habitat, she flew. And she flew. And she flew. And we watched her until she disappeared. Sniff. I really did have a tear in my eye and at the same time we were excited. I think it was just a reminder of children and growing up and all that goes with it. Thank you God, for these small reminders of your goodness and grace. Prepare my heart now for all that being a Mom will bring in the future. Strengthen my little ones' wings and prepare them for flight.
But if they only land a few feet away-I'm good with it! : )
