Deal of the Week!

Since last April, I have been learning the fine art of couponing. Being someone who, last spring, was spending around 900.00 on groceries (I know, Crazy right???), we needed to make a change. I have a friend who introduced me to http://www.southernsavers.com/ and my life has not been the same since. I have so many things that I could share but for now, I will just tell you about the picture above. I will tell you right now, that I am not one of those couponers who goes and gets the deal even if its something we would never use-I refuse to hoard. A friend of mine made a good comment about this, if it is in you to hoard the deals then give the things away- there are many charities who would benefit from a box of free toothbrushes. Having said that, I have learned that the deals come around in cycles and one of the deals that I have been saving up for is EIGHT O'CLOCK coffee. WE are quite the coffee drinkers in my family. Joey just doesn't function without his morning java. Eight O' Clock coffee, our coffee of choice, is the best bang for your buck- being tasty and economical, coming in at around 5.89 a bag. The coupons for the coffee have been out there and so I have been collecting them waiting patiently by buying coffee at Sam's, which isn't bad at all and also quite economical. Last week, it was time to pounce. The cycle came around and Eight O Clock coffee went on BOGO at Publix--glory!

So lets do the math $5.89 a bag divided by 2 (because its half off) = around $2.95
Coupon was $1.00 off and so that bag of coffee was...$1.95 as opposed to $5.89
What a deal!
Now once you have paid $1.95 for a bag of coffee it is very difficult to then go back to paying $5.89 for the same bag, soooooooo... I took my coupons (enough for seven bags of 1.95 coffee) to the Publix and stocked up.

Now, I refuse to be that obnoxious couponer who takes everything off the shelf so on my first trip last Wed. I bought four bags and then this past Tuesday, at the end of the sale cycle, I bought three more making a total of 7 BAGS OF COFFEE. I just wanted to give others the chance to cash in on the deal. The cool thing about Publix is that if the deal is on and the shelf is empty-- at customer service they will write you a raincheck that tells you that you can come back and still cash in on that deal, even if the deal is over by the time they are stocked again. NICE!
I got a raincheck this week on Beggin' Strips- Cookie will be so excited!
More tips to come in the future and also, "what i pay for groceries now that I coupon"---coming soon.

I will definitely start checking this site. A year or so ago I started following another blog that posts about coupons and deals. There is so much out there that we often go unaware of. But at the same time it does take time and effort. I applaud your success!
