Week 2 was a whirlwind. With one
short week behind us, due to the fact that we had some of our very best friends Jay, Frances, Anli and Virginia come for a visit, we were on to a second week of schooling. I found out very quickly that, being a teacher, I am an over-planner, which is better than being an under-planner but many modifications to the schedule would have to be made. Flexibility was the key this week, however, we took some time to make sure that learning took place outside of the "classroom" as well. Monday P.E consisted of family yardwork, while Tuesday P.E consisted of swimming at a friend's house. Now this may sound like we went swimming, goofed off and then tried to call it school. It was actually a fabulous learning experience for us all. Andrew swam the length of the pool for the first time ever (over the deep end), and also learned how to jump off the diving board. This, while discussing the Olympics and the discipline it takes to become an olympic athelete. Alora then followed suit and jumped off the diving board as well. I asked Andrew what he thought of P.E. today and he replied, "That is the best P.E. I have ever had." I am only sorry I didn't have the camera with me.

Andrew, after having three torturous years not understanding math, has decided that his favorite subject is MATH! This is HUGE for us. He also says that Bible/History is his second favorite subject. This is Andrew's first experience with history because his first years have been social studies: communities and a bit of government. He and Alora both have loved our time together studying creation, and the fall of man. Wednesday we headed off to the library with our friends Leigh, Caroline, Luke and Samuel for "Storytime at the Library". Luke, Caroline and Alora will have storytime once a week while Andrew and I browse the library and check out books. He felt like big stuff because he received his very own LIBRARY CARD. (Alora gets hers next week)

Thursday was a day back in the classroom but we finished early because Alora had gymnastics in the afternoon. She and her best friend Caroline enjoy this sport together and when I say together, I mean
together. Many times they are separated at class due to the size of the groups but not today. They locked arms with a death grip no man could separate and plunged forward. It was awesome. They had a blast in the
same group.

Friday was Joey's birthday and so some of our schooling involved baking and decorating a birthday cake. What a time we had doing some cooking math! Andrew also free-handed a large AU (for Auburn, of course) on the cake while his sister filled in the letters with blue stars. The cake was fabulous and totally kid baked and designed. Flexibility and Fun--All in a Hard Day's Work!
