The Planetarium
Our first field trip was to the Huntsville Planetarium. What I have discovered is that there is tons out there for homeschoolers to do--you just have to dig. In Science we are immersing ourselves in astronomy this year. Joey and I loved Apologia's Exploring Creation with Astonomy, the science curriculum we chose to use this year. The Astronomical Society in Huntsville hosts many events all year long that will coorespond with what we are learning. At the planetarium we saw a presentation on the solar system and gazed at the stars while pointing out constellations on the dome-shaped ceiling. We were also able to stare straight at the sun with the use of a Hydrogen-Alpha Solar telescope. I was amazed at how many homeschool families were present at the presentation. Standing room only.
