Midnight 5K!

That's right we ran a Midnight 5K! Leah and I set off for Cullman, AL, around 9:45 pm with our running clothes on, water bottles packed and every bit of glowing accessories I could find! Tom is a friend of ours from church who is also a runner. He is actually in training for a marathon in December. Earlier during the day, I wrote on his Facebook wall to tell him that we were heading out for the Midnight 5K and he decided to come get in on the fun.

It was so awesome! We had such a blast. Friend and Running Superhero, Brittney was there. She is actually one of the major running influences in my life and it was great to run a race with her. From the picture you can definitely tell who the serious athlete is and who is the mere amateur! Let's just say, #567, you have got some work to do girl!
It was pitch black and so cool outside. I noticed the temp at my house during the day reached 100 degrees! I was very thankful it was midnight. That's Leah running past the 2.0 mile mark. We have been pretty inconsistent in our running schedule but we did pretty good and finished strong.
The Before and After pictures are always great, aren't they? It may have been cooler outside but that does not mean we didn't seriously sweat! Tom ran a great race! I think he said he finished in under 25 minutes--a time I will never see in my running lifetime! Way to go, Tom!
Leah finished in 30:58 and I was right on her heels at 30:59. When we got back to the car I told her that I was so proud of her she had really turned it and was running fast during the race and she replied, "I thought you were running really fast and was the one who was turning it on!" That's one of the things I love about running with Leah, we challenge each other and push each other further than we would go by ourselves. Way to Go, Leah! It was a blast! We hung out for the door prizes and medal ceremony. Its always good to see who beat you. We both won door prizes! Leah won a free pass to a water park, we have never heard of and I won a free water bottle from Chick-fil-A. Yeah us! I walked in my door at about 2:45am. It was awesome! My sweet husband was still waiting on me-he doesn't sleep well until he knows I am home safe. It was an awesome night and we are already planning for more runs in September--I will keep you posted.
