It May Not Look Like Homeschool But We Are Learning and Having Fun!

Homeschooling has looked a little different lately. Coop has been fabulous and we are learning lots in our classes. I was able to be a guest speaker in the geography classes since I have been to Turkey. I showed my slides and was able to reminisce about the time I spent in Istanbul, Capadocia and Ephesus. Those were fabulous times! At home, school has been slow in my mind, due to some unexpected interruptions, but we are trucking along and having fun while we learn. Alora is learning about grouping and subgrouping in language. We have been organizing information and this week we played a silly game to make the point.

Andrew and Alora raced to get dressed with items I picked out. Obviously, my choices were warm weather and cold weather clothing. When they were completely dressed, they looked pretty silly!

Yep, Andrew is wearing his bathing suit with a scarf and Alora is sporting flip flops with mittens. We then talked about how to organize the clothes into groups: warm weather and cold weather and then discussed how to organize info into groups. It really did make the point, I promise.

The kids have also been learning about Burma. We have studied the culture, geography and religions of this area. We made prayer calendars this week to remind us to pray for specific things for this military lead country.

The kids posted the calendars above their beds and they pray specific things each night. We are committing to pray for Burma for a month. The kids have really enjoyed the study. We have also been reading about George Muller, whom they affectionately term as "Mommy's favorite dead guy". Well, he is, along with C.S. Lewis! We have enjoyed reading this book by Janet and Geoff Benge. In History we are learning about the Phoenicians and their alphabet. The kids even made greeting cards using the Phoenician alphabet instead of the English alphabet. Fun!

I love it - I am always inspired by your homeschool stories. I may never homeschool, I do not know, but this is so awesome!
