Cleaning Challenge: Day Two

Tuesday is our longest and busiest day of the week. We begin coop at 9am and get done at 2 and then we are off to piano and drums at 3:30. At 5:30 we had a double-date planned with friends Mel and Dewayne--that's right! You heard correctly--a DATE! So you can see that I really had to pick a room that didn't need too much attention and clean it really good. Again it is more about the filth than about the clutter at this point. Attacking clutter comes soon though. Tuesday was the living room!

Cleaning Tip of the Day--My sweet, sweet Saundra gave me a cleaning tip I will use for the rest of my life. When in the middle of a project, leave your vacuum out so that if unexpected company comes over, they know you are in the middle of a serious project. Even if you are NOT in the middle of a cleaning project, leaving the vacuum out says, "Hey, I know my house is dirty, see, i have my vacuum out!" It covers you at all times. So ladies at the beginning of the day, just park your vacuum in the middle of the floor and then go about your business. : )
By the way, I use a shop vac for all of the wood floors. It works great! I call it my R2 Unit!

I dusted the furniture and cleaned the t.v.

Removed the laundry and dusted all pictures, tables and the couch. Finally, the floors are mopped with Murphey's Oil Soap.

I think this an appropriate time to share this little tid bit, which we will call Cleaning Tip #2 of the day- Enlist helpers. This is hard for me because I would rather do it myself, but they need to learn to work for the team. I have chore charts hanging in my kitchen that keep them going for the week. Not alot, just a chore a day+ their rooms.

On Mondays, Andrew takes out the trash from every can in the house.

Alora cleans windows and doors. This is her favorite job because she likes to spray.

At 5:30 we dropped the kids off with friends and headed out for date night with our good friends Mel and Dewayne. We had a blast! Dinner at Carrabeas and then we headed to the mall that is joined with it. We first went in Brookstone where Mel and I chilled out in $4000 massage chairs. Worth every penny, I tell you. We then just browsed through the mall and talked. I got one nail polished by that little guy that seems to appear at every mall with a buffer in hand. Gotta, tell you, I just love my little naturally shiny finger nail. Why don't I ever buy that stuff?
While Mel and I walked through stores and dreamed about the large, beastly kitchen we would have to have to stock everything we wanted from Williams-Sonoma, Joey and Dewayne just chilled and had guy time. Awesome! Our time ended at the mall when a rather musical Santa walked up to me and began serenading me while I was talking to Mel in the chairs. What was he singing? "Blue Christmas" by Elvis, of course! It was pretty funny! We had a blast on our double date and hope to do it again SOON!!!

Does your dog shed? Ours does and our new apartment has all wood floors--I just finished sweeping and mopping it--what is your advice to keep it clean and does your vacuum really work well? I am looking for something. Jane is constantly on the floor you pick her up and she is covered in dog hair! The wood floors are going to be the end of me. :P

Anna, Shop vacs are made for shops and garages and so they are heavy duty. I love ours as an indoor vac because it sucks the dust and dog hair up like crazy! Lowes is the place to get one or Home Depot.
