It has been the dream of a grandfather to build his grandchildren a fort for some time. A few weekends ago the dream began to become a reality. First, there was lots and lots of wood.
Second, there was a fort designer and builder extraodinaire.
Third, there were willing and able aprentices.
Throw in some very excited kids and this is a recipe for a FABULOSO fort.
The plans are for a two story clubhouse complete with swingset attached. On this Saturday everything was running smoothly and the floor and walls were going up quickly...
The kids were so super excited and Andrew and Spencer did their part to help out as much as they could. Spencer had big plans for a hammock attached to the fort, while Alora and Andrew were pumped about a second level.
The dogs were excited about all that wood!
While working on the fort, Bibi and Joey were both on the second level when their greatest nigtmare occured... the main bolts had not been screwed in on two sides yet when they both found themselves on the second level. Joey explains it like this, "Do you remember how when Wylie Coyote ran off the cliff and there was that split second before he falls to the bottom of the ravine. It was like that." Dad and Joey found themselves laying on top of a pile of wood on the ground, both destined for great soreness. (Bibi is still recovering but he will never let you know it hurts)
Alas, after the first day, the first and second levels were properly constructed with the safety of the grandbabies in mind.
It is awesome! The kids already love it and we have already planned many activities for it--like doing schoolwork in it on nice days, putting a picnic table on level one for cookouts, a band concert starring Andrew, Alora and Spencer, and sleepovers under the stars. Even though it is not finished the kids can already use the swings, sit on top but not play and the hammock was installed only a couple days later. Only a week later would our fort stand up to the worst weather Alabama has ever seen and it would HOLD! Yeah-BIBI!
You rock!
